What Is Antisemitism and What Is Not: Clarity and Simplified

In Antisemitism, Communications, Hate Speech or Hate Crimes

Before you label—or dismiss—ask better questions:

❓ Is this criticism—or targeting Jews as a people?
👉 Example:
Criticizing a government policy = legitimate
Saying “Jews control governments” = antisemitic trope

❓ Is the same standard applied to other countries?
👉 Example:
Critiquing Israel like any democracy = fair
Singling out Israel as uniquely evil = discriminatory

❓ Is this language rooted in historical stereotypes?
👉 Example:
Referring to “Zionists as global manipulators” echoes classic antisemitic conspiracies

❓ Are Jews being held collectively responsible?
👉 Example:
Blaming Jewish students for actions of Israel = antisemitism

❓ Is harm, exclusion, or violence being justified?
👉 Example:
“From the river to the sea” used to erase Jewish self-determination = dangerous rhetoric
